不知從何時起，蕭索的蘇格蘭街頭出現了一個神秘女子（斯嘉麗·約翰遜 Scarlett Johansson 飾），她身著皮草，駕駛一輛汽車，不苟言笑的麵龐隱約間彌散著攝人魅力。她時不時地與路邊的男人搭訕，向他們問路，間或載著相中的男人同歸。她走向黑暗的勁頭，被欲望支配的男人們緊隨其後，卻全然未能覺察自己步入了怎樣的深淵。男人有如飛蛾撲火，被抽取了骨血，隻剩空空皮囊，薄如蟬翼。直到某個晚上，女人搭載了一個相貌極其醜陋的男子。他宛如怪物一般，自知醜陋而深深隱藏自己。女人如往常一樣接納了他，而從第二天起，似乎女人發現自己在悄悄發生著變化。她發現了這幅皮囊的可欣賞之處，享受作為女人的樂趣，卻幾乎忘記了本來的麵目…… 本片根據米歇爾·法貝爾（Michel Faber）的小說改編。
